She never needs a smartphone. Wifi depends on the plan: Home Line runs on her wifi — you connect it on your phone before you mail it. Open Line has cellular built in and needs no network at all. Either way there is no app on her end and nothing for her to log into.
Which plan should I get?
Home Line if she has wifi and you can get it connected — you do that on your phone before you mail it, and it is $99 once with no monthly fee.
Open Line if she has no wifi, or you are not the one who will be there. It has its own cellular connection, so it works the moment it has power. $99 plus $9.99 a month.
Is there really no monthly fee?
On Home Line, yes — $99 once, and nothing after that. It runs on her wifi, which costs us nothing to keep running, so there is nothing to charge you for.
Open Line is $9.99 a month, because it carries its own cellular connection and that airtime is a real cost. We would rather charge for the part that actually costs money than put a subscription on the part that doesn’t.
What if she forgets to press it?
Then you see a quiet day, and you decide what it means. You can send a note from your phone and it appears on her screen. Nothing escalates on its own and nobody gets called. You know her routine better than any setting we could build.
What if she presses it more than once?
That’s fine, and it’s normal. You see every press with its time. Some days that’s one, some days four. Two presses within 30 seconds count as one, so a shaky hand doesn’t create a phantom.
Does it know she actually took her medicine?
No, and we won’t claim it does. It knows the button was pressed. What that means is between the two of you.
Is there a camera or a microphone?
No. There is one button and one screen. Nothing in it can see or hear anything.
What happens when the batteries run low?
